Social Distancing in Groningen

The “social distancing society” will require fundamental changes in how people behave in public spaces. But can the city infrastructure facilitate social distancing?

This map focuses on Groningen’s sidewalks, pedestrian areas, and public transportation infrastructure. The goal is to showcase the suitability of current sidewalks in complying with the social distancing rules. It further highlights how public transport hubs could hinder the ability of pedestrians to practice social distancing.

As a response to social distancing regulations, several cities have already deployed interventions like closing streets to traffic, thus widening the space available to pedestrians. This map shows data from the BGT, and might not reflect the current status of mobility in Groningen. For updated mobility information, refer to the Website of the Gemeente Groningen
